Starlight Theatre and title sponsor, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, celebrate the upcoming completion of the eighth year of the Blue Star Awards program. Now going into its ninth season, the annual Blue Star Awards program recognizes outstanding achievement in musical theater among area high school students. The program’s goal is to bring together high school theatrical programs in metropolitan Kansas City and outlying areas to recognize outstanding talent among youth.
During the 2009-10 school year, a record 49 high schools producing 55 musicals are participating in the Blue Star Awards program. Their outstanding achievements in musical theater were recognized on Starlight’s 12,000-square-foot outdoor stage on Thursday, May 27, 2010, at the annual Blue Star Awards ceremony. At the ceremony, two students were presented with the $2,500 Rising Star Scholarship and another student was presented with the Outstanding Technical Achievement Award.
Starlight Theatre and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City invite all area high schools to participate in this exciting program that acknowledges excellence in production and performance efforts in high school musical theater.
